In February 2020, Michael Edwards from the Chesterfield Canal Trust came to give the 35th Rotherham Scouts, a talk about the Dawn Rose. She is a replica Chesterfield Canal working boat and has been built using the original methods by a group of volunteers. As part of the evening, we held a raffle with the prize being the chance to spend the day with the Dawn Rose crew (myself included) and experience a horse drawn boating display. Covid got in the way of things last year, but on Sunday 12th September, the raffle winner, Isabelle joined the crew for the day.

She joined in with opening and closing the lock gates, which wasn’t easy as many of the paddles have been damaged.

She met Charlie the horse who pulls the boat and Dean his owner

And helped to take Dawn Rose back to her home at Shireoaks marina. All of the crew were very impressed with her and said she would be welcome back anytime.
